Dr. Chad A. Shaw serves as Director of D2K. Chad has an extensive background in statistics and data science through his work in academic research and commercial applications. He holds academic appointments as joint professor of statistics at Rice where he teaches causal analysis; he is also professor in the department of genetics at Baylor College of Medicine where he has performed extensive research in genomics and high dimensional data analysis. He is also a member of the faculty of the Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital. Combined with his reputation as an outstanding teacher, mentor and adviser, and his leadership and management skills, he strikes an excellent balance of education and experience for directing D2K. Dr. Shaw has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and has participated in numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health and other sources. According to Google Scholar, Shaw’s papers have been cited 26,749 times and he has an h-index of 85. His commercial background includes five years of leadership service as senior director of bioinformatics and then senior director of innovation at Baylor Genetics -- a commercial clinical diagnostics molecular testing company located here in Houston. Shaw pursues a vision to expand and enhance collaborative partnership and educational opportunities for D2K through a combination of academic and commercial projects.
